Samsung phones upgrading to One UI 3.1 won't get one of the best features

Samsung has been on fire with the updates. Soon after rolling out One UI 3.0 based on Android 11 on its recent flagships, the company is now promoting One UI 3.1 on some of them. This update adds many S21 features to these devices such as Enhanced Single Take Mode, Private share, and video call effects, but it lacks at least one: Google Discover on the home screen.

SamMobile was able to confirm that only phones that ship with One UI 3.1 out of the box will have Discover integration. Other phones that get the update will have to settle for Samsung Free, which offers news from Taboola News, free TV programs (using Samsung TV Plus) and some pretty bad PWA games.

The Samsung Galaxy S21, Samsung Galaxy F62 and Galaxy A32 5G series are currently the only Samsung phones to support Google Discover on the One UI home screen. While all future phones with One UI 3.1 pre-installed will include Google Discover integration, some of the existing devices may get the option with the release of Android 12.
