Samsung has managed to surprise its staunchest skeptics by making its software update system extremely flexible lately. The company not only kept its promise to bring Android 11 to its devices, but also demonstrated its commitment by offering four-year security updates for most of its devices released since 2019. By streamlining its operations even further, Samsung is now removing some ambiguity about how often some of its devices will receive security updates.
Until recently, Samsung divided its security update frequency into three categories: monthly, quarterly, and other regular. While the latter category was still eligible for updates, no one could have guessed when (or how often) they might appear. It has now been renamed “twice a year”, which also clarifies the frequency with which these devices will receive updates – twice a year.
At the time of writing, these are the following models, included in the bi-annual security update category:
