Back in 2019, Samsung launched a new app called Galaxy Labs. It functions in a similar way to Good Lock, offering a set of different modules that users can download to perform various system tasks: Battery Guardian watches out for random apps that want to drain your battery, and App Booster optimizes apps after a software update to keep everything working. Well. This week we are seeing two new modules appear and some others are being updated to version 2.0 with new features.

Battery tracker received a slight visual update and its 7-day chart now displays your screen-on time, just like the 24-hour chart.
Battery Keeper received a larger update with several new features. Screen saver needs to be turned on for every app, and the display dims quickly when you’re not using your phone, before the display timeout eventually locks the device. Saving power while sleeping reduces performance while you sleep by limiting background activity and CPU usage to conserve battery life.
File guardian is deprecated as most Samsung apps have their own recycle bin.
Memory keeper it is a completely new module that allows us to see exactly what our precious RAM is using. Apart from the ability to clear application memory, there is a useful historical usage table. This breaks down how RAM is divided into the system, running applications, and cached processes.
In my experience, Samsung’s RAM management has always been pretty good without any intervention on my part, but it’s certainly interesting to see how the system allocates RAM for different tasks.
Thermal Guardian aims to keep your phone beautiful and cool, and has several handy features to help with that. The Thermal Threshold slider lets you adjust when the phone starts to slow down. By dragging the slider all the way to the left, the phone informed me that it would start throttling 2 degrees earlier than usual. Conversely, dragging to the right will raise this threshold by 2 degrees. All of my devices get hot during extended Duo calls, so I can try installing a cooler and see how things are going.
You can also touch the indicated points on the temperature graph to see Why the phone was heating up. Last night it was due to several factors: my S21 was charging fast, making a Zoom call in the background, Facebook and Telegram were open in a popup, and Infinite Painter was open while I was painting with the S Pen. Seeing it all broken down makes reading interesting.
This is the largest update Galaxy Labs has seen since the 2019 release, and the new features are certainly helpful.
