Lauren Boebert alleges that the Pentagon considers her a security risk through a tweet.

Lauren Boebert, the newly-elected Republican Representative from Colorado, caused a stir on social media when she tweeted that the Pentagon views her as a security threat.

In the tweet, which was posted on January 18th, 2021, Boebert wrote: “The Speaker of the House, and her team, are now demanding that our military, who are supposed to serve America, swear allegiance to the foreign power of Nancy Pelosi. A new low. I just met with the General. He told me the Pentagon is actively working to undermine the President and Constitution of the United States. This is a national security threat.”

The tweet sparked immediate backlash from Democrats and national security experts, who questioned the accuracy of Boebert’s claim. Some accused her of spreading baseless conspiracy theories and undermining the credibility of the military.

The Pentagon quickly released a statement denying Boebert’s allegations. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, said in a briefing that the military is committed to upholding the Constitution and serving the American people, regardless of political affiliation.

Kirby also pointed out that the Pentagon cannot, by law, engage in any partisan political activities. “It is not within the purview of the Department of Defense to engage in these matters,” he said.

Boebert’s controversial tweet is not the first time she has made headlines since being sworn in as a member of Congress earlier this month. The conservative lawmaker has already drawn criticism for her vocal support of President Trump and her refusal to comply with new security measures put in place at the U.S. Capitol following the January 6th insurrection.

Boebert has also faced scrutiny over her past social media posts, which include promoting baseless election conspiracies and expressing support for the QAnon movement.

While some Republican lawmakers have defended Boebert, calling her a brave voice for conservative values, others have distanced themselves from her controversial statements and called for a more measured approach to political discourse.

The backlash to Boebert’s tweets highlights the growing polarization and tension in American politics, particularly in the aftermath of the 2020 election and the events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol. As the country grapples with deep-seated ideological divides and a public health crisis, it is more important than ever for elected officials to prioritize honesty, civility, and the interests of all Americans.
