Samsung has added a podcast player to its phones in case you need another

Podcasts have been the “next big thing” in content for a while now, and all tech, media, and venture capital firms are eager to get involved. Considering how many Samsung apps are preinstalled on their phones, it was always surprising that there was no podcast app among them. With a new update to the free entertainment-focused app (formerly Samsung Daily), the company’s flagship devices will now support podcasts right out of the box.

The update will be available for all Galaxy S21, S20, S10, Note 20 and Note 10. To find this new library, scroll to the left. open for free and select the new “Listen” tab. At launch, the show’s selection is focused on news, culture, real-life crime, comedy, and sports podcasts from major broadcasters such as NPR and iHeartMedia. You need to make sure you are signed in to your Samsung account before you can start listening.

It remains unclear who exactly requested this. From Spotify to Google Podcasts – not to mention the countless dedicated apps on the Play Store – there is no shortage of ways to listen to your favorite shows. However, if you are the type of person who dives in and out of podcasts, the built-in player on your home screen can come in handy. You just have to be content with what Samsung adds to its library over time.
