Samsung announces sequels to last year’s hit Galaxy A series phones

Samsung has been killing it lately with its mid-range offerings. We loved last year’s Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 – between them and the more expensive S20 FE, the company had a lot to offer for those of us who didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a phone in 2020. Samsung has announced three today. new additions to its sub-flagship lineup: Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72. They need to fill big shoes.

The design of the phones is almost identical, with the only real difference being the size: the A72 is slightly larger, with a 6.7-inch screen compared to the 6.5-inch A52. All three phones have high refresh rate displays: A52 and A72 at 90Hz and A52 5G at 120Hz. Each one is available in four colors: purple, blue, black and white. Fortunately, Samsung has ditched the glossy plastic on older A-series phones for a more sophisticated matte look, and the phones are IP67 water and dust resistant – a significant upgrade from last year’s models.

The A52 and A72 are powered by Snapdragon 720G chips, while the A52 5G has a 750G processor (which obviously supports 5G). You can get either one with six or eight gigabytes of RAM, and the non-5G A52 also has a four gigabyte option. And all of them are equipped with powerful batteries – 4500 mAh in the A52 and 5000 mAh in the A72.

The camera settings on different devices are basically the same. Each has a 64MP f / 1.8 main camera, a 12MP f / 2.2 ultra wide-angle camera, and a 5MP f / 2.4 macro photography. But while both A52 models have a fourth “depth” camera, the A72 has a much more useful 8MP 3X telephoto lens.

Samsung continues its commitment to long-term software support for these phones, with the A52, A52 5G and A72 guaranteed three OS updates and at least four years of security patches.

The release of three devices with such similar designs, features and names will likely confuse some less technical buyers, but overall the phones look like solid updates to their 2020 counterparts. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but last year’s A51 retailed for $ 400 and the A71 retailed for $ 600. If Samsung manages to hit similar prices this year, it will likely have another set of hits.
