The transition from Google Play Music to YouTube Music has been difficult and controversial. But Google hasn’t finished ditching its multimedia apps yet. According to the updated support documentation, the Google Play Movies & TV smart TV app will be the next to enjoy. In October, the phone app was replaced by the new Google TV app, but from June it will also disappear from Smart TV platforms.
Google says that the Play Movies & TV app will be removed from the most popular non-Google Smart TV interfaces: Roku, Samsung, LG and Vizio. (Naturally, it was never available on Amazon Fire TV or Apple TV platforms.) The last day of official support is scheduled for June 15th. Play Movies & TV has already been removed from Google TV (the interface for the new Chromecast), replaced by access to purchases of videos in the Play Store directly through the interface and on YouTube.
