Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 gets improved multitasking in One UI 3.1 update

Samsung debuted One UI 3.1 on its Galaxy S21 series, but recently decided to port it to other Galaxy devices, including the Z Fold2. While the feature set is largely similar across devices, the foldable phone has received a few more tweaks to match its unique form factor.

The first couple of improvements are in multitasking – welcome additions to make the most of the tablet-sized internal display. It will now be possible to return directly to the three previously open multi-active windows through the Recent Applications menu on the main display and up to two in the cover display. There’s also a new way to launch multi-active windows – just press and hold the notification, drag and drop.

Accessibility has also been improved in the Flex mode of the camera application; the position of the camera controls is now adjustable. The preview window also includes delete and submit buttons, making it easier to manage photos and videos.

What’s more, the notifications on the quick bar are categorized, and the weather widgets on the cover and home screen are in sync (a bit absurd they haven’t been there yet). There are also several visual UI tweaks, including a redesigned vertical volume slider, updated light and dark themes, and a slightly revamped video calling interface.

The update has already started. If you haven’t received it yet, be sure to check it manually at Settings> About device> Software update. Samsung doesn’t mention the OG Fold, so it’s possible that these features won’t make it to it.
